Phase III Campaign to Make History

Phase III Naming & Adoption

Donate to the Campaign to Make History and you will be a part of the Sudbury story!
The SHS is grateful for the ongoing support received through Phases I and II of the Loring Parsonage repurposing project. Our donors have made a lasting impact on Sudbury’s future with each gift to date. Now the SHS is working to design interior spaces, including exhibition galleries, the archives, office, and visitor’s center, and plans for The Sudbury Story are coming together. To help, join us at our upcoming 20th Century Pop-Up Exhibit and Phase III Benefit on October 20th where we will have a silent auction for the adoption of some of our special collections.

Or give directly to Phase III of our collections adoption and special naming opportunities for the Sudbury History Center project, including:

SHS Vintage Beverage & Bottle Collection

Home to Commander Beverage and other soft drink companies, soda “pop” abounded in Sudbury in the 20th century! The SHS collection includes an assortment of Commander beverage boxes and bottles, Yolo bottles, Razcal cans, and other beverage containers. Adoption will provide for the care, preservation, and growth of this collection. Multiple shares available. All donations will be permanently recognized at the Sudbury History Center.

Sudbury Laboratory Collection

Sudbury Soil Test Kits were manufactured by Herbert and Esther Atkinson at Sudbury Laboratory, during the 1930s and beyond from their property at 558 Dutton Road (also known as the Perry Homestead and “Homeplate Farm,” Babe Ruth’s house). The SHS collection includes 11 kits from different decades in the 20th century and other, unique products such as Chaperone “keep away” dog powder. Adoption will provide for the care, preservation, and growth of this collection. Multiple shares available. All donations will be permanently recognized at the Sudbury History Center.

SHS Postcard Collection

The SHS postcard collection includes over a hundred postcards of all aspects of life – people, places, things – around Sudbury and general occasion cards from throughout the 20th century. Adoption will provide for the organization, care, preservation, and growth of this collection. Multiple shares available. All donations will be permanently recognized at the Sudbury History Center.

$100.00

SHS Textile Collection

The SHS has an extensive collection of clothing, quilts, linens, and various other textiles, as well as sewing equipment and notions. To better preserve our collection, we will be taking measures in the History Center archives to have more appropriate temperature controls and archival quality storage methods. In the future the SHS may want to work with a textiles conservator to assess the collection and recommend a course of action for the collection as a whole. Adoption will provide for the care, preservation, and growth of this collection. Multiple shares available. All donations will be permanently recognized at the Sudbury History Center.

$100.00

SHS Media Collection

Over the years the SHS has recorded programs, collected oral histories, and received donations of audio and film recordings. We also have a large collection of photographs that showcase the growth and life of our community. Many of the items in our media collection desperately need digitization (to preserve the collection) and organization (to benefit researchers). Adoption will provide for the preservation, digitization, and growth of this collection. Multiple shares available. All donations will be permanently recognized at the Sudbury History Center.

$100.00

“Step in the Right Direction” Staircase Treads

Help advance the SHS’s goals by naming your very own step on the staircase in the new addition. All donations will be permanently recognized at the Sudbury History Center.
